NEW 8” DUCTILE IRON WATER MAINS IN BARRINGTON

Bristol County Water Authority will be upgrading the water mains on Foote Street, Prince’s Hill Avenue and Sullivan Terrace in Barrington during the summer of 2015. The work will involve removal of some older, undersized water mains in these streets and installation of new 8” ductile iron water mains. The objective of this work is to upgrade the water system by connecting the distribution system from South Street to a large water main in County Road to improve water quality and flow. Our contractor for this work will be CB Utility Company Inc. of Bristol, RI.

HOW WILL THIS WORK AFFECT YOU?
In order to perform these upgrades, the existing water main must be taken out of service for several weeks. While the water main is shutdown, water supply will be provided to affected customers (shown in green on the map) through temporary above ground water bypass lines. These lines will be connected to each of the affected homes so that those customers will not lose water service. Should you have any questions or concerns about a worker wanting access to your basement, please don’t hesitate to call our office at 401-245-2022 between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday.

Adjacent customers (shown in orange) may have water shutdowns for a short period of time while a valve on their street is replaced (typically a onetime shutdown of 4 to 8 hours) and will receive advance notice before this happens.

PLEASE WATCH YOUR STEP!
You will notice trench openings in the street and you will also see the bypass pipelines running across intersections and across driveways with gravel ramped up at driveways to allow cars to drive over the pipelines. Please watch your step. If you see any potentially hazardous situations, please call us. All trench openings will be filled in and resurfaced at the earliest possible time. All by-pass piping and gravel ramps, steel road plates, and all debris and materials will be picked up as soon as possible after the work is complete. Temporary asphalt patch will be installed as soon as possible and better permanent patch will be installed after approximately 90 days, to allow for settling. Every possible safety precaution will be taken while the project is in progress. All work areas will be barricaded and carefully marked to prevent accidents or injuries. You can help to avoid accidents by cautioning your family and friends to watch their step and avoid the work areas as much as possible.

WHAT ABOUT PARKING AND ACCESS TO THE STREET?
Normally, local access is permitted to residents; however the streets might be restricted to alternating one-way traffic, depending on the type of work going on.

TEMPORARY INCONVENIENCE, PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS
Clear, clean, high quality drinking water is our ultimate objective in all this activity. We realize that there are going to be some inconveniences during the project such as noise, dust, water shutdowns, traffic detours and temporary pavement. We will strive to minimize the inconveniences and annoyances on our customers. However, these inconveniences are short term and minor when looked at in the long term perspective of providing new and upgraded water pipelines that bring drinking water to your homes.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we work to improve your water system.
